Color Critique: Shane

#1 The pop of color is in the color of the camaro. The pop of color did make sense in this composition because it is an alternate point of view which makes the color look more apparent than it would if the picture was taken from far away and at a higher angle. The composition is well balanced because you have the reflection of the sun on the paint of the car making it pop more and the dark and very light background create a great balance for the warm color pop. The picture is well exposed. The range of tones is great because you get the light from the sky and the clouds, then you get a dark from the street and the grill of the car and the color of the car creates a warmth right in the middle. I would change the reflection on the car because you can see the parking spot lines and it kind of throws off the color. I think the image evokes a warm mood just because of the color of the car and the way the sun reflects off of it. I really like this image. The point of view and color pop is great.

#2 The pop of color is in the hat. The pop of color did make sense because it takes up a lot of the frame but i feel the color of her eyes kind of pops too and it kind of contradicts the color of the hat.  The exposure is good. I do not think the range of tones is that balanced in this image, it just a lot of different pops of color. I would have taken the hat out of the picture and used her eyes as a pop of color. I feel like her eyes are a very pretty pop of color. I cant really tell the mood of the picture because the hat makes it a little crazy but her eyes and facial expression look softer. I think it is just very contradicting with her skin tone. I like the image, i see where the pop of color was meant to be but i think her eyes are a better pop of color.

#3 The pop of color is in the tiles of the design on the wall. Yes the pop of color did make sense in this composition because it is focused on one art and the ones in the back are blurred out. The composition is balanced because you kind of have the rule of thirds going on and a closed/open frame with the objects in the back being blurred out. The exposure is a little under exposed i think or it just may be the shadow but i fell like it may need a little boost. The range of tones is very good because at the front of the picture it is very light and as you get to the objects in the back it gets darker which makes the focus of th picture stand out more. If i took the picture i would have changed the camera picture frame so that the right side of dead space is cut off and the picture starts at the beginning of the wall next to the art piece. I like the image. The balance is good and the point of view is good as well.

#4 The pop of color is on the bus which is the red. I think it is a good pop of color but i don't like how the red takes up most of the frame. This kind of takes the pop affect away because it really isn't contrasting with any other colors. The composition id balanced because the flag is put off to the right creating a rule of thirds. This image is a little underexposed, it looks a little dark and it looks like the red should be brighter. There isn't really a range of tones because most of the frame is red. You cant really compare them to anything else other than the light on top and in the windows. I would have taken the picture from further out and gotten the whole bus in the picture so that we could see whats surrounding the picture. I think this would make the red of the bus pop more. This picture creates a trapped kind of feeling because of the wall and closed windows and bars on the bus. I like the image but there is too much red.

#5 The pop of color is in the syrup on the stand and the vest and letters on the shirt. The pop of color did make sense because it is using the rule of thirds. There is a pop of color in every plane of the picture. The composition is balanced by the syrup, the man sitting down with the vest on, and the girl walking with the yellow lettering on her sweater. I think the picture is a little underexposed. The range of tones is good because of the contrast of the light cement and the dark colors in the bushes and the clothes of the people. I would put more focus on the syrup because i feel like that is the main pop of color but it is being overshadowed by the bright yellow of the vest even though it is blurred out and in the background. I like the image, i would have never thought to take a picture of syrup as a pop of color but it is a really good one.

#6 The pop of color is the orange of the fish. The pop of color does make sense in this image. The color is being balanced by the other fish and the blueish green of the water. The image is very well exposed, the orange really pops. The range of tones is great. You get the light from the reflection of the light on the water but then you also get dark from the deeper of the water and the other colors of the fish. I wouldn't change anything about this picture. This picture creates a very relaxing mood to me because of the texture of the water and the warm orange of the fish. I REALLY like this picture. The orange is such a good pop of the color. I would frame it!!

#7 The pop of color is the red of the statue. Yes the pop of color made sense in this composition. Yes the composition is balanced. It creates a very good open frame even though some of it is cut off. The range of tones are good because there is the almost white sky contrasting with the red of the statue and the shadows that are created within the statue. I think the image is a little underexposed, this may be just because it looks kind of cloudy outside. The range of tones are very good though since its not just red and white, you get different shades of red as well. I don't think this image evokes a mood or feeling to me. I would have take the picture from more underneath the statue compared to right in front of it. I like the image, its very clean, nothing to distract from the main focus of the image.

#8 The pop of color is the yellow and blue of the time meter. I do not think the pop of color makes too much sense because I'm not really sure of the pop of color because the focus is on the white rather than the yellow and blue. Yes the composition is balanced because it is a closed from and alternate view but i don't think a closed frame really works for this image. I think the pop would have been greater if there was a little background to contrast it with. The image is well exposed though and the range of tones are good because there is white all the way to gray. I would have take the image in more of an opened frame. I like the image but I'm not really sure where the pop of color is.

#9 The pop of color is the yellow/orange of the cross walk sign. Yes the pop of color makes sense. The composition is closed frame and rule of third which makes the color well blended with the grey pole. The exposure is well exposed. The range of tones is good because you have the white, orange, get and black. I would not change anything about the picture, i think it is very well exposed and composition is good. The colors contrast well enough to get the pop of orange out. For some reason this image kind of evokes a lonely feeling I'm not sure why. I like the image, great color pop and composition.

#10 The pop of color is the green and white in the Starbucks sign. Yes the pop of color makes sense in the image. The composition is well balanced because of the rule of thirds and the closed frame. The exposure is good. The range of tones is good because the bright light of the sign contrast with the dark background. The range of tones is good because you have white and then black as well. I wouldn't change anything about the picture. I like it as it is and it is very clean and basic. The mood i get from this image is warm because of the gloomy background and maybe just because of the word coffee.
